Dermatological condition
Who it's for
People with a damaged skin barrier or a weakened immune system

What is a bacterial skin infection?

An infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus or streptococci. It develops when the skin barrier is damaged.

What are the symptoms of a bacterial skin infection?

Redness, swelling, warmth and pain. Pus-filled blisters, crusts and weeping patches may appear.

What are the causes?

Dry, cracked skin, heavy sweating, a weakened immune system or chronic conditions such as diabetes.

When should you see a doctor?

A bacterial skin infection belongs in a doctor's hands: your doctor decides on antibacterial care, topical or, for widespread infections, with oral antibiotics. Skincare products can only support the skin in the meantime – gentle cleansing and an intact skin barrier help prevent new infections.
