What is eczema?

Eczema (atopic dermatitis, atopic eczema) is a chronic skin condition with dryness, itching and redness. It has a genetic basis and is linked to a weakened skin barrier.

What are the symptoms of eczema?

Dry, rough, itchy skin, fluid-filled blisters and crusts. The patches typically appear in the creases of the elbows and knees, on the face and on the neck.

What causes eczema?

Genetics, a weakened skin barrier, allergens, harsh cleansers and stress. It comes in waves – calm periods alternate with flare-ups.

How do you care for skin with eczema?

The foundation is the regular use of rich emollients that rebuild the skin barrier. During acute flare-ups, your dermatologist decides how to calm the skin. Avoid irritating factors such as fragrances, wool and harsh cleansers.
