What are freckles?

Freckles are small, flat brown or reddish spots made of clustered melanin. They are genetic and become more intense with UV radiation.

Where do freckles come from?

The MC1R gene determines the predisposition to freckles. They are most common in people with fair skin and red or blond hair. UV radiation stimulates the melanocytes to produce more melanin in clusters.

How do you care for skin with freckles?

SPF 50+ is the basis – it keeps freckles from getting darker. Vitamin C gently evens out skin tone. Freckles are a natural part of beauty – you don't have to remove them.

Care for them or lighten them?

If you want to gently even out your skin tone: niacinamide and azelaic acid work mildly. Avoid harsh bleaching agents – freckles are part of your unique beauty.
